When you have decided what you are going to do with your post secondary life and what career you are going to pursue, you will also have to figure out how to pay for it. If your plan includes post secondary education, you can expect to pay a considerable amount of hard-earned cash for the privilege. However, there is the possibility of free money provided for you by people who want to see the next generation succeed in their educational goals.
Yes, it's true! In fact, Claremont Grads are awarded between $600,000 - $800,000+ per year!
This money is called a scholarship and is available to virtually anyone. You don't need to have straight 'A's, or be headed for the pros in a sport. It helps to be good at something, but there are scholarships available for everything from cooking to physics. Universities give them out for entrance to their programs and companies provide them for children of their employees. Many, many are never claimed each year, which means that the money is never used and you don't have to get the big money scholarships to help make a difference in your educational finances either. Lots of little scholarships added together will still make a big difference, so apply for anything that you think you even remotely qualify for.
Some ways you can qualify for scholarships are:
- Membership in a group. eg. 4H, Scouts and Guides, Athletics
- Get good grades
- Volunteer work in the school or community
- Community activities
- Be a good citizen
- Have an up-to-date resume
- Collect reference letters
- Have a transcript of your grades
- Be aware of District and School scholarship opportunities
