Planning 10 - Mr. Berra: Day 14

Application Forms

Application Forms
Application forms are used by companies to get information they need that is specific to their hiring process. They may be simple or complicated, depending on the level of job you are applying for. Often, this is the first thing and employer sees before they decide if they want to look at your resume and cover letter, so it is important that you fill them out carefully.

Application Form Tips:

  • Never put your SIN (Social Insurance Number) on your application form. Employers don't need this until they offer you the job.
  • Greet the person you first speak to politely - first impressions are often passed along to the employer!
  • Neatness counts! Fill out the application form in your neatest printing or ask if they have an online version. Use black or blue ink.
  • Be honest in your answers.
  • Be sure to sign and date the application.
  • Fill out the form as completely as you can. If a question doesn't apply to you, put N/A and the employer will know that you didn't just forget to fill it out.
  • No spelling or grammatical errors. As with your resume and cover letter, have someone proofread it for you.
  • If there is a deadline, make sure your application is submitted on time.
  • Apply for a specific position.
  • Keep your application form free of wrinkles.
