Info Lit 8: Use of Information

Learning Intention

You should be able to:

  • Take notes of various details.
  • Elevator Pitch an idea

Instructions

Take a large sticky note or index card or use the template below:

Read the piece about Amelia Earhart and take notes on your biggest sticky note, box or index card.

Put aside the information about Amelia.

From the notes you have taken try and reduce them to the most important things that will fit on your second sticky note / box. You want to concentrate on only the most important things. Try not to alter how big you write.

Finally reduce it once more to an "elevator pitch". Something you could say in 10 seconds or less that would give the most important information about Amelia without rushing or speaking fast. Write this into your smallest box/sticky note.

-----------------

Now we're going to try this again. Get 3 more sticky notes / flip over your notes template.

Repeat this process with an article from the front page of CBC News. Choose an article you want to know more about. At the end you will need to share your elevator pitch of the article with the class.
