About the DLC: Important Reminders from the DLC Staff

Things you should know, from the DLC Staff

Reminders for Librarians and Clerks for start of the year

  • When sending material to the DLC always use a box label:
  • All items arriving at the DLC, whether sent in by schools or ordered through the DLC, will be put on the cataloguing shelves in date order.
  • Schools will receive one rush request per year. Use it wisely.
    • Professional items are always pulled and put in the front of the queue when delivered to the DLC.
  • When sending in books to be added to the catalogue please ensure the item has the school stamp. This saves time for the DLC staff as they check each book when it is unpacked to ensure it is stamped as well as finding the stamp when the book is entered into the system.
    • The preferred placement is on the first page bottom right. If the first page is dark please stamp a label and place it there.
  • The following things will not be added to the catalogue:
    • Puzzle books or sticker books that have fill in the blank pages
    • Professional black line masters that do not have an institutional license.
    • Items that regularly come to the school free of charge, such as the Choose your voice from FAST (fighting anti-Semitism together, TD Grade 1 books) will not be added.
    • Books that are in bad shape with torn pages or broken bindings will not be added.
    • Book club editions will not be added to the catalogue. These books are usually acquired through donations to the library.
      • Disney book club
      • Grolier book club
      • Scholastic home book club
    • VHS are no longer added to the library collections.
    • Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs)
  • Reference books now have the same circulation policy as regular Nonfiction items.
  • When sending professional items to be added please consider the following.
    • The age of the item. Professional collections should be new and current. Anything 5 years or older probably contains old information.
    • Any items that have workbook pages and are copyright protected will not be added to the catalogue but sent back to the school.
  • Discards will only be emptied once a year in the first week of July.
    • If you receive a message that when checking out to discards user “Response Truncated” let Cathy Drew know and she will at that time empty your discards user.
  • When giving books to another school do not discard or blackout barcode. Send them into the DLC with a note of who to recatalogue them to.
