Overview
Over the next few classes, you will explore the qualities that make an effective leader. You will begin by reading the short story "Tilted Ground". In this story Sonny Assu introduces you to the great Ligwitdaxw leader Chief Billy Assu who was his great- great-grandfather. Once you have read the story and learned more about Chief Billy Assu, you research another leader. You will then write a compare and contrast essay comparing the two.

Billy Assu lived in Cape Mudge which is on Quadra Island. Quadra Island is of the eastern coast of Vancouver Island near Campbell River. The Quadra Island website has a map of the island including Cape Mudge:
