LLC: Effective Practice Guide

Supporting Effective Practice in our Library Learning Commons in SD57

How to guide

Things you should include when building the Library Learning Commons schedule:

  • You need to include your prep time. It's contractual. This is prep for your teaching.
  • Collaboration time. This is where you work with teachers to support
    • Inquiry
    • Maker
    • Projects
  • LLC Administrative time - You need about an hour a week (pro-rated to your amount of assigned library time) of uninterrupted time a week to deal with:
    • Resource ordering
    • Website building
    • Visioning

Other things to consider:

  • Are you the prep teacher? If so you should work with your principal and teachers to build a prep schedule that addresses the needs of the staff and you
  • Book exchanges - How do you maximize teaching time and the need to give readers advisory during book exchange?
  • Do you have other hats? How do you build around them? Can you incorporate them into the library?
